Early Childhood Education in Central Florida
About Us
At Sunshine Montessori, we believe in a classroom where children are self-directed and able to make appropriate choices. In our multi-age environment, each child works at their own pace with hands-on materials, while observing and learning from others.
Grace and courtesy are central to everything we do. By developing cultural awareness, children learn to live with dignity, respect, and politeness toward themselves and others — building the foundation for peaceful, confident citizens.
“Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence.”Maria Montessori
Curriculum
From opposites and rhyming to word building with the moveable alphabet, reading boxes, and forming sentences. Students progress from phonetic sounds to reading fluency at their own pace.
Beginning with counting and symbol recognition, progressing through place value to the thousands, and advancing to operations with Golden Bead Materials and the Stamp Game.
Children learn to care for themselves and their environment — putting on shoes and jackets, washing plates, sweeping, mopping, watering plants, and setting the table.
Exploring the five senses through hands-on materials like the color box, sound cylinders, color matching, and the constructive shape basket for geometric forms.
Studying continents, oceans, the Arctic, animal habitats, seasons, and community helpers. Geography, science, and history come alive through projects and exploration.
Gardening, crafts, baking, and creative projects connect learning to the natural world. Children plant seeds, watch them grow, and care for their classroom gardens.
Beyond the Classroom
Your child will visit places like Sea World and the Orlando Science Center, connecting classroom lessons to the real world through hands-on, experiential learning.
Children plant seeds, tend their own garden, and cook together — making bread, butter, soup, and more. They experience the full journey from seed to table.
Guest speakers, parent readers, and local professionals visit regularly, helping children understand the world around them and the people who make a community work.
Throughout the year, children prepare holiday meals, perform songs for families, and participate in cultural traditions that bring the whole school community together.
